Islamic State has reportedly captured a pregnant 15-year old from Sweden along with her husband, according to the Swedish newspaperExpressen.
Stockholm released only scant details of the story, partly because the girl was living in foster care near Gothenburg until she ran away with the man she married in a Muslim ceremony in Stockholm earlier this year, without her parents’ knowledge.
Apparently, the pair ran to Syria where he volunteered to fight for al-Qaeda in June. All was well until they were taken hostage last week, according to accounts from Syria.
The Swedish government said it knows the teenager is in Syria but could not confirm her kidnapping. However, the country’s media says she is being held with a group of Arab women.
Foreign women – particularly younger ones – are a prized possession for ISIS fighters, with many eyewitness accounts of girls being subjected to multiple rapes and sales in slave markets.
