Pakistan: Muslim Girl Suffers Severe Injury to 70% of Her Body Following Acid Attack by Her Dad and Uncle

VEHARI, Pakistan: A girl suffered serious burn wounds on Thursday when her father and an uncle threw acid on her in Chak 56-K/B, Ludden, some 40kms from here.

Reports said that Rabia Bibi, with 70 percent burns, was shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan in a critical condition.

Rabia had contracted marriage with her cousin Nazakat. After getting divorce from him, she eloped with another cousin, Jaffar. She returned home after a panchayat assured her that she would be married.

According to panchayat’s decision, Rabia was to tie the knot with Jaffar, but her father Shaukat and uncle Riaz were not agreed on it.

On Thursday, they threw acid on Rabia and informed police that Jaffar and his accomplices had committed the crime.

The Luddan police took Jaffar into custody, but after investigation arrested Riaz who confessed to having committed the crime. Later, police also arrested Shaukat. A case has been registered against both accused under Section 336 B and 7-ATA.

Throwing acid on any person, especially a woman, has to be one of the most egregious crimes against another human being that I have ever heard of. We read story after story where, the perpetrator is a male and the victim, a female. We continue to hear governing bodies from nations where these crimes occur proclaim: ‘..we are getting serious about prosecuting acid attacks..’

Are you ‘truly’ serious about halting these crimes against humanity?

Then, prove it!

Here is a punishment that fits the crime:

Any ‘person’ found guilty in a court of law, of acid attacking another person will:

First, have his genitals fully submerged in a vat of sulfuric acid for 3 minutes.

Next, have his entire head submerged in a vat of sulfuric acid for 3 minutes.

Then, produce posters and billboards with this message and post them everywhere. Produce commercials for television and radio and broadcast them regularly. Let any future perpetrator know that ‘..he will suffer as the victim suffers..’

And to any nation that fails to implement a punishment such as this, for a crime so horrific as this, is NOT ‘truly’ serious about stopping it.

English Girl Converts to Islam Then Gets Acid Attacked for Breaking-up With Muslim Man

An 80-year-old man hired two thugs to throw acid in the face of his ex-girlfriend when he became convinced that the 20-year-old was seeing another man after their relationship ended.

Vikki Horsman was left horribly burned and disfigured after she was doused with the sulphuric acid as she went to answer the door at her friend’s house in Tividale, West Midlands.

Her ex-lover, Mohammed Rafiq, was today found guilty of arranging the attack in revenge for Miss Horsman, who had converted to Islam during their relationship, breaking up with him.

Pakistan-born Rafiq persuaded Steven Holmes, 25, and Shannon Heaps, 22, to carry out the attack and initially pretended he was also a victim after he too was splashed by the acid.

All three were today found guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. They will be sentenced next Friday.

The court heard that Miss Horsman converted to Islam and even changed her name to Aleena Rafiq after meeting the pensioner, more than six times her senior, when she was just 14 years old.

She had described the breakdown of her relationship with Rafiq, who she had been sleeping with since she was 18.

Rafiq, whom she had known six years, had bought her a car, but became increasingly ‘very controlling’ she told the court.

‘He often accused me of cheating on him,’ she said.

Describing the moment she was attacked, Miss Horsman, who was 19 at the time, said: ‘I went out into the porch and shut the door behind me. I looked outside and that was when I saw the gentleman standing there.

‘He asked if I was Vikki, I said yes and that was when the substance was thrown over me. I felt a burning in my face and lips.

‘I ran to the mirror to see what was happening. Then I ran to the kitchen, and splashed water over my face to try and get rid of it.

‘I tried to call an ambulance but they couldn’t understand what I was saying, I was just screaming.

‘I asked Mohammed to call them and give them the address. I can’t remember him doing anything else.

‘I was splashing water on my face. Mohammed gave me a bottle of water as I could feel it burning inside my mouth.’

She said he had pressured her to become a Muslim in November last year – even though she had not wanted to.

She ended the relationship a month later but Rafiq could not accept the break-up and believed they were still together, the court heard.

She added: ‘He became a lot more controlling. He wanted to know where I was a lot more. He kept checking up on me to make sure I was where I said I was.’

‘He still thought we were in a relationship even thought I told him it was over. He got very angry.

‘One day I came home from shopping and he was there.

‘He told me he had found condom wrappers in my bed side drawer. He showed me pictures he had taken on his phone. He was angry, he accused me of sleeping with somebody else.’

 

Miss Horsman suffered 8 per cent burns to her body and told the court she was still receiving treatment for her injuries.

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Jason Moseley, investigating officer for West Midlands Police, said: ‘This was a horrifying and complex case which centred around a controlling relationship.

‘Rafiq’s young ex-partner was seriously injured and left with devastating, lasting scars, which one can only presume was his intent given the nature of the planned attack.

‘He recruited two people to carry out the attack on his behalf and then tried to claim that he was also a victim.

‘His victim now has to rebuild her life and move on from what was ultimately a controlling, abusive relationship that she paid a high price to leave..’

Speaking following the trial, Miss Horsman said: ‘What happened that day changed my life forever.

‘I have had to undergo lots of treatment for the burns and the damage those people caused.

‘I suffered severe scarring to my neck and chest and have recently had to undergo further surgery to help my recovery.

‘But, it is not just what everyone can see that causes me pain.

‘The trauma and distress that Rafiq and his accomplices have put my under have left mental scars that I fear will never go away.

‘I still have sleepless nights and keep leaving my home to stay with friends and relatives as I can’t bear to be on my own.

‘This is what those people have done to me – all because I had the courage to be my own person and escape a controlling man.

‘I know I have to be strong and am pleased that justice has been done but no matter how satisfied I am to see Rafiq and the others go to jail, that won’t turn the clock back and take away the scars they have left me with.’

Four Women Sprayed in the Face With Acid by a Group of Muslim Men

QUETTA, Pakistan: Unidentified men travelling on two motorcycles attacked four women, one of them a teenager, outside a jewellery shop with acid in the Kili Kamalo area on the outskirts of Quetta on Monday.

The men used syringes to discharge the acid on the women’s faces as they emerged from the shop in the busy market area and escaped after the attack. Dozens of women were present in the market as they shopped for the upcoming Eid celebrations.

This is the second acid attack on women in Quetta, with the last recorded incident in September 2011, when four young female teachers were attacked outside a school. The school had previously received threats but no group took responsibility for the attack. No arrests were made and the school reopened a few weeks later.

The women attacked on Monday were identified as Bibi Safia, Zulikha Bibi, Noor Jahaan, and Ayesha Bibi. They were taken to Bolan Medical Complex (BMC), the only hospital in Balochistan where burn victims are treated. While all four women received second degree burns, the teenager, Safia, received 11 per cent more burn injuries than the other three women, said doctors, leading police to speculate that she may have been the primary target. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Saryab Imran Qureshi, the other three women received 3 per cent, 6 per cent and 4 per cent burn injuries.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Quetta has constituted an investigation team under the supervision of SP Saryab Imran Qureshi. The women said they do not have enmity with anyone and have not nominated any suspects. “It is premature to comment on whether any extremist outfit is behind this attack or if this is the cause of a family dispute,” Qureshi said.

Female workers on the outskirts of Quetta often complain of threatening calls and letters received from extremist groups and Baloch and Pashtun nationalist parties such as the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and Pushtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) have pointed to a growing presence of religious fanatical groups in Quetta and parts of Balochistan. They claim these groups enjoy official patronage.

In December 2013, anti-polio campaigners were targeted, also on the outskirts of Quetta, in the first such attack in the area. However, Qureshi reiterated that while there were dozens of women present in the market at the time of the attack, the culprits only targeted four. While investigations are underway, he said, “I cannot rule out of the involvement of religious fanatical groups.” Security in markets and bazaars has been beefed up.

One Woman and One Girl Acid Attacked by Muslim Men in Separate Incidents

FAISALABAD / BAHAWALPUR, Pakistan: Two women were attacked with acid in separate incidents on Wednesday.

Police said Saima Bibi*, a resident of New Garden Town, had exchanged angry words with her husband over a domestic matter. Her husband and his brother then attacked her with acid.

Saima Bibi received burns and was taken to Allied Hospital.

Dr Umar Daraz, on duty at the Emergency Ward,said Saima Bibi had received serious burns on her back, shoulders and arms. He said they were providing her intensive treatment but her condition was critical.

Naseer Ahmad, a neighbour, said Saima Bibi had six children and was a school teacher. He said Saima Bibi was the sole bread winner and often used to argue with her husband over finances.

He said Saima Bibi had come home from school and got into an altercation with her husband. He got angry and he and his brother attacked her with acid. The men then fled.

Ahmad said neighbours gathered at their house after hearing Saima Bibi’s screams and took her to a hospital.

Raza Abad SHO Asim Rasheed said the police have registered a case against the men.

City Police Officer Dr Haidar Ashraf has formed two teams – one under Gulberg Deputy Superintendent Police Asadur Rahman and the other under Raza Abad SHO Asim Rasheed – to catch the culprits in 48 hours.

Attack #2:

A 17-year-old was attacked with acid allegedly during a rape attempt. Police have arrested one of the suspects.

The girl’s father, a resident of Chak 104P near Rahim Yar Khan, told police that one of their neighbours used to call his daughter and would threaten her. He said his daughter had told him about the phone calls so he had visited the boy’s parents and complained to them.

He said on Tuesday night, his daughter had gone to the washroom when the boy and one of his friends overpowered her and tried to rape her. He said his daughter raised hue and cry and the boy threw acid at her and fled. He said he took his daughter to a hospital. Doctors said her face and neck had been badly burned and she was in a critical condition. Police registered a case against the two boys and arrested the neighbour. They are looking for his friend.

Pakistan: Three Hindus Injured From Acid Attack and Dozens Murdered

KARACHI, Pakistan: Three Hindus were injured in an acid attack during a religious festival in Pakistan’s southern port city Karachi on Monday, according to police.

“People were throwing colors on each other at a ceremony to celebrate [Hindu religious festival] Holi in Model Colony area, when one of the participants threw acid-mixed color on the crowd and sped away,” said Pir Mohammad Shah, a city police chief.

We can hardly doubt the motivation behind this attack on Minority Hindus in Pakistan. As per the Standing Committee on Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas, it is strictly prohibited for Muslims to take part, celebrate the festivals of Kuffar (Hindus). It reads:

It is not permissible for the Muslim to join the kuffaar in their festivals and to express joy and happiness on these occasions, or to take the day off work, whether the occasion is religious or secular, because this is a kind of imitating the enemies of Allaah, which is forbidden, and a kind of co-operating with them in falsehood. It was proven that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” [Fatwa no. 2540]

Muslims in Karachi believe that the attacker was a Hindu, ironically the acid-throwing incident follows the burning of a Hindu temple and a community office in the southern Larkana district on Sunday, by angry mobs protesting the alleged burning of a Quran by a Hindu.

Pakistan is a Muslim-majority country where Hindus are the second largest minority after the Christians. They make up 2 percent of the 180 million population.

Initial reports are coming in that dozens of Hindu civilians have been murdered by Muslims in separate attacks in the region of Dera Bugti, Pakistan.
